MODULAR MOON TORONTO

ABOUT

Modular Moon Toronto is the Canadian section of the Modular Moon international school network, operating under the roof of artist Attila Hanak. As a local hub, it brings Modular Moon’s educational philosophy to Canada through hands-on workshops, long-term programs, artist collaborations, and community events focused on modular synthesis, sound art, and experimental electronic music. The Toronto section serves as a meeting point for musicians, visual artists, and creative technologists who wish to explore modular systems in an open and collaborative environment. Guided by the experience of Modular Moon and supported by Attila Hanak’s artistic vision, the school connects Canada’s experimental music community with an international network of educators, performers, and researchers. Students gain access to practical learning, creative mentorship, and opportunities to participate in concerts, exhibitions, and collaborative projects while becoming part of the global Modular Moon community.

MODULAR SYNTHESIS SCHOOL TORONTO

The Modular Moon Toronto program follows the original educational curriculum developed by Modular Moon, ensuring the same methodology and high standards taught across the international school network. Classes are conducted in English and are organized in small groups of four students, allowing for an intensive, hands-on learning experience with individual attention for every participant. The curriculum combines theoretical foundations with practical patching sessions, creative assignments, and collaborative exploration of modular synthesis. If demand exceeds the capacity of a single group, a second group will be scheduled consecutively, making it possible to accommodate up to eight students per course cycle while maintaining the same small-group learning environment and teaching quality.

THE PROGRAM

The Modular Moon Toronto curriculum follows the original educational program developed by Modular Moon, an internationally established modular synthesis school. Every course is based on the same methodology, teaching materials, and practical approach used throughout the Modular Moon network, providing students in Canada with a consistent and comprehensive learning experience.

The program is designed for musicians, producers, sound artists, composers, and curious beginners who want to develop a deep understanding of modular synthesis. Rather than focusing on memorizing patches, the course teaches the fundamental principles behind analog and digital synthesis, signal flow, modulation, sequencing, control voltage, timing, sound design, and creative system design. Students learn how to think in modular systems, enabling them to confidently work with Eurorack and other modular formats. Throughout the course, participants build practical skills through guided patching exercises, listening sessions, technical demonstrations, creative assignments, and collaborative experimentation.

Each lesson combines theoretical concepts with extensive hands-on practice, allowing students to immediately apply what they learn on professional modular systems. Classes are conducted entirely in English and are intentionally limited to four students per group. This small-group format allows every participant to receive individual guidance while encouraging discussion, collaboration, and shared experimentation. The intimate classroom environment also gives students ample time to ask questions, develop their own artistic ideas, and explore different approaches to sound creation.
